Greetings. This is my first post to any of the Axway forums. Please point me to the correct forum if Sentinel is not the right one.
My company has recently migrated into using Axway for file transfers. I'm an applications developer, not directly involved in the Axway installation or operations. I have access to the Sentinel monitoring tool, where I can check the status of file transfers. This is fine for doing spot checks, but I'm looking for a way to access the same information in an automated way. Our previous file transfer tool allowed us to execute SQL queries into the underlying db from unix scripts, to verify if a certain file transfer actually completed. I have been told that it is not possible to run queries into the Axway db, but I'm hoping that I just haven't asked the right people. I'll appreciate any help you can provide on this. |

Hello Gregory,
I have worked on Sentinel for quite some time and am a member of this Forum. I think as an end user perspective, it is possible to query the Sentinel database using batch scripts provided you have following information: i) Login credentials to log on to Sentinel database. ii) Knowledge of the Sentinel database structure and how the tables are created in it, as its quite different because tables look like "Current_<xxxxxxxx>" and "Historic_<xxxxxxxx>". These "xxxxxxxx" are objectid's and can be checked from Sentinel database table "TrackingObject". You only have to check the column name "Name" that contains the Tracking Object name created in Composer and the corresponding value in column name "Objectid" to match the correct id. iii) The SQL queries that we create from the Composer Interface are quite different from the usual SQL queries, so this involves some syntax changes while querying in a batch script. Please let me know if this information helps. Regards, Rahul Katara -------------------- Rahul Katara

Hi Rahul,
Thanks for responding to my question. I haven't made much progress with my questions at my workplace about getting access to the database. Do you know if the Sentinel database has a standard name? Thanks, Greg |

Hello Greg,
Good to hear from you. I can't guess the exact name as do not have the details of the Sentinel Server installation but you can check the file "trkserver.xml" for Sentinel database details. This is located at default installation path: Axway/Synchrony/Sentinel/conf/. Please check the tab "DB connection" to get information on database type, database instance name and user details. Please let me know if the above information helps and next time do provide the following information for further help and better understanding: 1) Sentinel version 2) Database Server -- Synchrony database or third party database server.
