We are running XIB v2.1.2 and found that there are a lot of empty directories unde the "filer"
folder for XIB. It seems that the contents of the folders has been
removed by the XIB but not the folder itself. This make the backup of
the XIB file system takes a lot of time. Is there any means to remove
those empty directories ?

Those empty directories are in the following structure :

/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d431:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d432:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d433:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d434:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d435:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d436:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d437:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d438:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d439:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d44:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d440:
/app/xib/xib/data/filer/d115/d441:

some are no accessed for many months. We purge data for over one week.

Thank you !

William,

Filer files are used to hold and process the larger amount of data. XIB creates a separate filer folder for each filer and hence the XIB deletes only the filer not the filer folder. Since you mentioned that the some of the filers are not used for months, you may consider reducing the number of filers.

Thank you for the response. Is the number of filer a configurable parameter under XIB 2.1.2 ?

The dirtiest but the cleanest way to do it is to stop all the tasks in Task monitor in XIB and delete all these directories (filer, table, trace, timer, logger, queue, and starter) Then Force rebuild in XIB (it will take a while), but you will notice that directories are being recreated in your system. Afterwards, restart the tasks again.

i recommend you do this on your test system... and backup before doinG!

this will do the clean up very quckly,

xib@linda1</opt/Axway/xib/xib/4edi/pgm># r4edi xib_clean.x4 -?
usage: xib_clean.x4 [-afilmnpqrstuv]
a - clean alert logs
f - clean Filer directories
i - clean timers
l - clean the "log" directory
m - clean Message Log
n - do not perform any cleanup
p - clean Porter task
q - clean queues
r - clean trace logs
s - clean the "tmp" directory
t - clean tables
u - clean "unique" files
v - verbose
xib@linda1</opt/Axway/xib/xib/4edi/pgm>#

to the filer problem , i usually run the filer_utility.x4 to clean up filer files. this is not documented in anywhere. i'll attached the reference for you

goood luck
